Brief
One of my earliest projects at Flyclops stemmed from a pitch I developed after studying the brand and marketing strategies of various AAA mobile games and identifying a common success factor: a strong brand presence often supported by a cast of characters that gave the app a human-like visual identity. I dedicated a week to crafting a pitch deck that included an analysis of the branding and app store previews of popular AAA games and a first draft of what would become Flyclops’ own character mascots for in-app and marketing purposes. The pitch also included a refreshed logo design to complement the mascot brand update. The design approach was grounded in the existing casual game style of “Domino!” without deviating into fantastical themes or fictional stories, which could alienate the current player base. The characters were designed to be a mix of different races and styles, reflecting the diverse player demographics. The pitch was approved, and I further developed the concept, leading to the characters’ integration into the app, their appearance in app store videos and previews, and even their unofficial adoption by player Facebook groups—an accurate measure of success for me. The appearance of the characters was met with positive feedback from the community, which increased app store installs.

Brief
Originally started as a Rank Play project and then transitioned into the metagame initiative, I designed the Rank badges and rank ladder for Domino!. I studied multiple competitive games across mobile, PC, and console platforms for inspiration and landed on a concept that featured the iconic Flyclops logo. This design choice honored our loyal player community, as many refer to the game as ‘Playing Flyclops’ instead of ‘Domino!’. The goal was to create a design that felt distinguished and aspirational. I incorporated elements such as wings that grow and expand as players rank up, along with a crown and a glowing light line at the highest ranks. This design aimed to symbolize achievement and progression, enhancing the competitive experience for our players.

Brief
As part of the broader metagame initiative, bone themes were introduced to allow further customization and enhance player endowment. This project represented one of the most iterative design experiences undertaken, requiring the conceptualization and comprehensive design of a diverse array of themed domino bone sets. Ensuring both creative appeal and visual accessibility posed significant challenges, necessitating rigorous testing and refinement. I employed traditional 2D illustration and 3D modeling techniques to achieve a balance between creative design and usability, underscoring the intricacy of the design process.

Brief
With the decision to bring in-game emotes to Blitz mode, I was tasked with designing the emotes, defining their individual expressions, and determining which expressions would best serve our players. This involved brainstorming expressions that offered the widest flexibility, allowing them to convey multiple but accurate emotional reactions to a bad or good move, match win, or defeat. After presenting my initial emote design drafts, it was decided to adopt a more typical cartoon-visual style with white eyes and black pupils, as leadership desired a more “approachable” style. While I believed unique designs would add more character and definition to the game, I respected and understood the decision. The final design reflects the updated emote style.

Alt Themed Designs
With the metagame initiative, I envisioned designing hundreds of emotes and proposed themed emote packs to diversify options. For example, the Bone Emotes pack features expressive faces on domino bone bodies. This approach allows for a dynamic and personalized player experience, enhancing in-game communication with varied emote designs.
